Katy EV Charger Services

Charge Your Electric Vehicle From Home

Electric vehicles are becoming increasingly popular as their prices go down and their ranges increase. Many Katy homeowners have already switched to electric and are considering it even more. Although electric vehicles have some advantages, they still have some disadvantages compared to traditional cars, such as having a limited range. One way to solve this problem is to install an EV charger at your home to “fill up” your car while you sleep.

At The Local Electrician, we have all the necessary training and certifications to install EV chargers at your home. We can install a charger that allows you to plug your vehicle in to charge while you sleep or a unit that will enable you to set your vehicle while you are out on the go. Whatever your needs are, we can help.

What are the Benefits of Installing an EV Charger?

Electric vehicles are great because they are generally very energy-efficient and tend to be better for the environment. The only downside is that they have a limited range, and if you want to travel farther than your battery can take you, you will need to find a place to charge your vehicle.

If you have an EV charger installed at your home, you will never have to worry about being stranded. Your charger will be safely housed in a protected area, such as your garage or shed, so it will always be available when needed. Another great benefit of having a charger at your home is that you will always have a safe outlet to plug in your vehicle, even if you are visiting someone else’s home.

Because electric vehicles are still relatively new, so few chargers are located in public places. This can lead to a traffic jam of vehicles trying to charge at the few available chargers. Having a charger at your home will not only save you from waiting in line, but it will also protect your vehicle from potential theft. When you plug your vehicle in at a public facility, there is a greater chance that someone may try to break in and steal your car. With your charger at home, you will be the only person with access to it, making your vehicle much more secure.

What Type of EV Charger Do You Need?

The first thing you will need to do when deciding on an EV charger is to figure out what voltage your home is equipped to handle. Since most homes are powered by 110 or 220 volts, this will be the voltage your charger will use. Once you have determined the voltage, you must evaluate the amperage, the amount of energy the charger will provide.

Depending on the size of your vehicle, your amperage will range between 4 and 20 amps. There are two main types of chargers, Level 1 and Level 2. A Level 1 charger is typically between 4 and 6 amps and is the least expensive type of charger you can buy. A Level 2 charger ranges between 12 and 20 amps and is more powerful, safer, and more durable. Both types of chargers can be installed in your home, but depending on your needs, one type may be better.
